Is Obama to read Open veins of Latin America: Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent

When President Obama was at a metting with the leaders of South America he was given a book called Open veins of Latin America: Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent written by Eduardo Galeano, it was presented to him by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.

President Obama took the book and posed with President Hugo Chavez. The book, Open veins of Latin America: Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent was published in Spanish in 1971, offers a critique of the consequences of 500 years of European and U.S. colonization of Latin America.

ABC reports that the the copy of the book that Chavez gave to President Obama appears to be in Spanish, a language Obama does not speak.

At the start of the first plenary session at the Summit of the Americas later this morning, President Obama was asked what he thought of Chavez’s gift.

“You know, I thought it was one of Chavez’s books," Obama answered. "I was going to give him one of mine.”

I Know Presidents are give many gifts, but if you go to a country and someone important gives you a well known book from that country if it was me i would read it.
